
Plans to turn the listed Bethany Chapel into a new food hall, restaurant or leisure venue at the heart of a redeveloped Howells building in the centre of Cardiff have been revealed.
The chapel site, and adjoining former Sunday school building, will form a key feature in the redevelopment of the 270,000 sq ft site as part of £100m mixed-use scheme from its owner in real estate firm Thackeray Group, which acquired the Howells building out of property receivership last year.
Since the 1960s the chapel has sat in the centre of the building with no street frontage. The overall redeveloped scheme will have new public realm running through it, with a central area linking through to Cardiff Market.
