Ford Fund investing £1m in community around Mersey plant

The philanthropic arm of car giant Ford has announced a £1m investment in the community around the Merseyside plant where it’s spending £355m to move towards electric vehicle manufacturing.
Ford announced in late 2022 that it was investing more money into the Halewood site as it transitions to producing more power units for electric vehicles. The move safeguarded hundreds of jobs, with Ford saying the site was “integral” to its European electrification plans as it moves away from traditional internal combustion engined vehicles.
Now the Ford Motor Company Fund, alongside international grant-making partner GlobalGiving, has announced it will be giving money to charities and community groups around the plant as it transitions to EV work this year. The money will help support projects from food provision for those on low incomes to work to help local young people prepare for the world of work.
The funding will support the renovation of the New Hutte Neighbourhood Centre, the base from which the non-profit Torrington Drive Community Association (TDCA) provides the vast majority of its support to Halewood residents. TDCA aims to help residents with …
