I bought a £569 iPad on Amazon but what I got instead left me gobsmacked

AMAZON shopper Carl Harper was stunned when he bought a £569 iPad and a driver delivered a £1 packet of Cadbury cookies instead.Carl, 43, thought the package felt light when he took it inside and as he opened it he found the packet of biscuits rather than a tablet.

The parish councillor ran back outside but the delivery man had gone so he called Amazon and was told to send the cookies back so they could deal with the mix-up.
Despite doing that Carl, who had paid the first of five instalments of £113.80, was then told he would still have to pay the rest of the money.
He complained again but got so fed-up with waiting for a response that he bought another tablet from a High Street store.
Carl, of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, said: “As the iPad was over a certain amount of money, there was a passcode I had to read to the delivery driver when he came.

“I read it, he passed me the parcel and disappeared.
“I thought ‘this is really light for a tablet’ and as I opened it, out fell a box of Cadbury cookies.
“I shot straight out the front door to chase the guy from Amazon, but he’d long gone.”
He phoned the online retail giant and was told he would get a refund but after a week had received nothing.

He called a second time only to be told the first complaint had not been registered properly and so they would do it again.
But once again he heard nothing.
He said: “In the end, I lost my temper and rang again and said ‘This isn’t acceptable.’
“I then got an email saying I had to send the cookies back and once they had received them, they would deal with the complaint.
“I sent the cookies back on October 7 and I’ve still had no response.
“I got an email saying they were going to take £113.80 out of my account for the next four months.
“Amazon’s response to this has been really poor.
“I ended up going to PC World instead and buying an iPad Air, but I’m still paying for this other one that I haven’t received.”

After going public with his complaint Carl was told by Amazon he would get a refund within a week.
A spokesperson for Amazon said: “We have been in touch with the customer directly and have made things right.”
